On the evening of 16th September 1956 TCN Channel 9 in Sydney commenced broadcasting with the famous words of presenter Bruce Gingall 'Welcome to Television'. At the time TV was broadcast for only a few hours each evening.
In 2006 The Royal Australian Mint struck a 99.9% pure silver one dollar and aluminium bronze one dollar coins featuring a TV transmission tower & camera designed by Vladimir Gottwald.
