Widespread throughout Australia the echidna also known as the anteater has powerful limbs with long claws for digging.
The Bilby is a desert-dwelling marsupial closely related to the bandicoot with big ears silky fur and well-developed claws ideal for burrowing. Babies are often found sheltering near spinifex. Despite the hot climate of their habitat Bilbies do not need to drink water receiving all their moisture from their food which includes insects seeds spiders fruit and other small animals.
The frilled neck lizard is an Australian icon having appeared on the original 2 cent coin design. When trying to attract a mate or when frightened the frilled ruff around its head unfolds making the lizard appear much larger. The lizard is able to hide by matching the colour of its surroundings.
The six coins are part of a Land Series of pad-printed coloured dollars and are housed in colourful packaging which includes educational information about the different animals. The field on both obverse and reverse is frosted.
