Since 2007 the Royal Australian Mint has celebrated each Lunar Year by releasing coins depicting each animal of the Chinese Zodiac Calendar.
In 2014 the mint acknowledged those born under the sign of the Horse. Exciting and extroverted vivid and animated people born in the year of the horse are said to be bursting with energy – the life of any party they attend.
This coin is the eighth in a lunar coin series struck by the Royal Australian Mint, Canberra. Each coin is housed encapsulated in a plush red leatherette, hinged-lid presentation case, protected by a Lunar series shipper and accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity. The issue limit of 10,000 proofs was not reached with the mintage declared at 6,000 coins.
