The beautiful gold coral (Chrysogorgia) is a type of ocotocoral, commonly known as soft corals and sea fans. While they may look like plants, octocorals are colonial animals and each polyp has eight (octo) feeding tentacles fringed with fine little branches called pinnules that capture food particles floating in the water.
