$1 Subscription 2010 100 Years Australian Coinage 1oz Silver Proof

This coin a collaboration between the Royal Australian Mint's designer Wojciech Pietranik and the Queensland branch of the Australian Numismatic Society celebrates the 100th anniversary of Australian coinage.

The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II represented on a 2010 dollar coin and the George W de Saules effigy of King Edward VII which appeared on the first Commonwealth of Australia coins in 1910.

The reverse design features replications of the reverses of the first four coins each of which incorporates the Australian Coat-of-Arms engraved by W H J Blakemore.

To clarify the nature of the release the Royal Australian Mint changed the name of the issue from 'subscription' to 'made to order'. Collectors were given an 8 week period in March-May 2010 in which to order the coin. Once the order period had closed and numbers were known the production run was completed striking only sufficient coins to fill orders.

The coin is housed encapsulated in a hinged-lid presentation case protected by a special cardboard shipper and accompanied by a numbered booklet incorporating a certificate of authenticity. The booklet researched and presented by the Queensland branch of the Australian Numismatic Society provides detailed information about the first issue of Australian coins in 1910.
