$10 2013 Blue Mountains Crossing Silver Proof
Before Gregory Blaxland, William Lawson and William Charles Wentworth became the first European settlers to cross the 'impenetrable barrier' of the Blue Mountains in 1813, only indigenous Australians had seen the vast plains and west-flowing rivers of central New South Wales. By traversing the mountain range, these pioneers not only secured the agricultural future of the colony, they opened up a stunningly picturesque region that would attract travellers for generations to come.
The reverse design depicts the three explorers standing high on a clifftop in the Blue Mountains gazing west out over the western slopes of New South Wales. A map of their route from Sydney to Mount Blaxland appears on a scroll in the top left quadrant.
The issue limit of 5,000 proofs was not reached with the mintage declared at 3,500 coins, each housed encapsulated in a leatherette RAM presentation case, accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity and protected by a themed cardboard shipper.
