When the Australian Government was considering the replacement of the large bronze halfpennies and pennies in 1919 with a smaller lighter coinage the branch of the Royal Mint in Melbourne struck patterns of the copper nickel and silver kookaburra halfpennies and pennies and distributed to the treasury parliamentarians VIP's and dignitaries.

Struck on a large lead flan at the Royal Mint Melbourne, this Australian undated King George V, c.1920 Square Kookaburra One Penny reverse trial is uniface. Kookaburra Pennies are of great historical significance and usually sell from $25,000 upwards from this period.
