More than a year after her accession in 1952, Queen Elizabeth II was crowned in Westminster Abbey on 2nd June 1953. The Royal Australian Mint marked this occasion with a special coloured two dollar coin in 2013 which was distributed for circulation. The design features a stylised representation of St Edward’s Crown surrounded by circles including a purple coloured pattern the colour synonymous with royalty.
