$2 2023 Vietnam War Coloured Silver Proof
Australia's first troops were sent to South Vietnam in 1962. During the next decade, personnel from each of the three services were involved in fighting against communist guerrillas and soldiers of the North Vietnamese Army. Most Australians served in Phuoc Tuy Province, site of the Australian Task Force and Logistics bases. Australians fought in major battles like Long Tan, Coral/Balmoral, Baria, Binh Ba, Long Khanh and Nui Le, as well as countless smaller actions.
Some 60,000 Australians served in Vietnam, 523 lost their lives and many more were wounded. The Vietnam War became one of the most divisive episodes in Australia's twentieth century history.
Today we remember those who lost their lives in Vietnam and the impact that involvement in that war had on Australia during a turbulent decade.
