2010 Sydney Cove 1oz 99.9% Silver Proof Coin & Wedgewood Plate Set

This striking commemorative coin portrays the Sydney Cove Medallion, a significant artefact made by Josiah Wedgewood in 1789 from clay found near Sydney Cove.

Accompanying the coin is an exclusive fine bone china plate specially made by the Wedgwood company.

Smaller in diameter than normal Perth Mint one ounce silver coins, but much thicker, the 'high-relief' reverse shows the Sydney Cove Medallion's allegorical design of 'time's opening scenes' in the new Australian colony. Four classical figures representing 'Hope', 'Art', 'Labour', and 'Peace' are seen on the shores of a bay with a ship in the background.

To achieve the high-relief, coin blanks were manufactured with concave surfaces to ensure an optimum metal flow during striking. The coin is housed encapsulated in a grey hinged-lid presentation case, protected by a blue cardboard shipper and accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity.

The fine bone china Wedgwood plate accompanying the coin is presented in gift-box packing with its own stand. The plate's blue and white design depicts the Medallion's symbolic scene along with lines from Erasmus Darwin's poem The Visit of Hope to Sydney Cove. The plate is edged in platinum.

The coin and plate set was limited to just 5000. Second quality outer box
