2013 Australia's First Banknote Centenary Coin & Stamp Set

The Perth Mint and Australia Post jointly released this coin at the 2013 FIP World Stamp Exhibition to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the issue of Australia's first banknote.

The Australian Notes Act was passed in 1910 and in 1913, the first series of Australian notes, based on the British monetary system, were issued. The first Australian baknote, the ten shilling denomination, was produced in May 1913. Other denominations from Ł1 to Ł1,000 followed during the years 1913 to 1915.

The set features a rectangular silver 1oz proof $1 coin with a reverse design featuring a coloured representation of Australia's first ten shilling banknote. The coin is accompanied by two commemorative postage stamps - $2.60 & 60c. The 60c stamp depicts a portrayal of the official note numbering ceremony in 1913 and the $2.60 stamp depicts the Australian Coat of Arms as it appears on the first banknote.

Limited to an issue of 3,000, each coin and stamp is housed, individually encapsulated in a hinged-lid, leatherette display case, protected in an illustrated shipper.
