This coin is the fourth in an Australian Opal one ounce silver proof series. The reverse incorporates an inner panel design of a pygmy possum on a banksia branch detailed in pure Australian opal. The outer panel depicts banksia leaves and blossoms a waxing gibbous moon and the Southern Cross a renowned star group which is only visible in the Southern hemisphere.
The issue limit of 8 000 proofs was not reached with the mintage declared at 7 349 coins each housed encapsulated in a grey hinded-lid presentation case accompanied by a numbered certificate of autheticity and protected by a colourful cardboard 'Australian Opal Series' outer shipping box. Symbolising moonlight a light turns on when the case is opened highlighting the opal design and shining down on the nocturnal creature. Marks on outer cardboard box
