2025 Winged Victory End of WWII 80th Anniversary 1oz Silver Proof

To commemorate the 80th Anniversary of End of WWII, The Perth Mint has released the Winged Victory 1oz Silver Proof.

In Greek 240, Nice is the goddess who personifies victory in any field including athletics competition and war. Since classical times, she is often portrayed in Greek art as “Winged Victory”. In Australia, she was the inspiration for Gilbert Doble’s Winged Victory, created for the top of Marrickville Soldiers’ Memorial unveiled in Sydney after World War I. Having suffered considerably from the elements, the elegant copper statue was restored and permanently transferred to the Australian War Memorial in Canberra in 2013 as an object of national significance.

This pivotal event in global history is honoured every year on VP (Victory in the Pacific) Day held on 15 August. The day serves as a powerful reminder of Japan’s acceptance of the allied demand for unconditional surrender on 14 August 1945.

The coins reverse presents a powerful portrayal of Nice as Winged Victory. Her muscular figure, symbolising strength, stand with ethereal, feathered wings spread out in full glory. She clutches a sword in her right hand, as a gesture of respect, and a palm wreath in her left, signifying her role as the messenger of victory.
