This coin was issued to mark the International Day of People with Disability which aims to increase public awareness understanding and acceptance of people with disability as well as celebrating their achievements and contributions.
Over 4.3 million Australians live with some form of disability. That's one in five people. On 3 December 2017 the nation celebrates the 25th anniversary of the International Day of People with Disability. This United Nations sanctioned day promotes the understanding of people with disability and encourages support for their dignity rights and wellbeing. Supported by the Australian Government the International Day of People with Disability breaks down barriers by celebrating what people with disability can achieve when given the opportunity to reach their full potential. By building awareness and understanding of people with disability the International Day of People with Disability inspires communities to see what can be done and how to take action.
Not struck for circulation and limited to an issue of 10 000 the reverse features the International Day of People with Disability logo and decorative motifs. Each coin is housed sealed in a plastic blister and presented on an official Royal Australian Mint card containing information about both the coin and the commemorative day.
