$5 2000 Olympic - Sea Change (#2) Silver Proof
A SEA CHANGE
A three year joint program the Royal Australian Mint and The Perth Mint struck sixteen different 99.9% pure silver five dollar proofs for the Sydney Olympics dated 2000. Each coin has the edge lettering GAMES OF THE XXVII OLYMPIAD.
Stuart Devlin's original concept description:
A central feature comprising a montage of faces representing a wide variety of ages ethnic groups and both sexes. The surrounding border will show the various means of transport which brought immigrants to Australia radiating in towards the centre.
His comments on the final design:
'The portraits represent Aboriginal Oriental Indian African and European cultures. I corrected the omission of a Brit from my original drawing by replacing one of the two Indians. The border shows 28 means by which immigrants travelled to Australia - ranging from sailing ships to jumbo jets.' second quality outer case
