Women's swimming events became a part of the Olympic Games in 1912 and the men's and women's programs involve four different strokes across a range of distances. The traditional men's and women's diving events are repeated for the synchronised diving events which along with women's water polo are new Olympic events. Synchronised swimming is open only to women demanding strength endurance flexibility grace and artistry.
