$5 2000 Sydney Olympics Archery Al/Bronze UNC
Issued in October 1997 this coin is the ninth in a 28 Coin Sydney 2000 Aluminium Bronze Specimen Collection produced jointly by the Royal Australian Mint in Canberra and the Perth Mint. The coin is presented sealed on a credit-card style pack.
Archery competitions date back at least to medieval times. The equipment has crept forward in its technology since then but the sport of archery remains essentially unchanged. A recurve bow of composite materials has become standard and arrows made of aluminium or carbon graphite can travel at speeds of more than 240 km/h. But the most important requirements are steady hands strong arms sharp eyes and nerves of steel.
