


$5 2016 50th Anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan
One of the heaviest actions of the Vietnam War involving Australian and Viet Cong forces occurred on the 18th August 1966. The engagement began when part of the 1st Australian task force encountered the Viet Cong and local forces in a rubber plantation near the village of Long Tan.
The Royal Australian Mint will mark the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan with the release of an al/bronze uncirculated 5 dollar. The reverse depicts a representation of the cross raised in the Long Tan plantation and the scene of the battle.
