50c 2002 QEII Accession Silver Proof
The reverse design created by Peter Soobik depicts St Edward's Crown Australia's Federation Star the denomination and Royal Ciphers intersected by the words 'Elizabeth Accession' and 'Fiftieth Anniversary' in a quaternary arrangement. St. Edward's Crown is the crown that was first used for the coronation of Charles II in 1661 and has been used in most coronations since that time including that of Queen Elizabeth II. The Federation Star is a symbol of Australia's federal system of government which also appears on the Australian national flag. The seven points represent Australia's States and Territories.
The well-know Royal Ciphers of Queen Elizabeth II as reigning monarch - 'EIIR' - and that of King George VI - 'George VI' - acknowledge the succession of the throne by Her Majesty.
Mint records indicate that 12,000 proofs were released by the Canberra Mint to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the Throne of England and the Commonwealth. The coin is encapsulated and housed in a rich red velvet hinged-lid presentation case with a replica crown affixed to the outside lid protected by a striking protective outer cardboard box and accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity.
