The Holden story began in 1856 when James Alexander Holden established J.A Holden & Co in Adelaide as a manufacturer of saddles and harnesses. In 1908 it moved into the automotive industry (with minor repairs and upholstry) starting up its first car engine in 1948.
Commemorating 160 years of Holden in Australia the Royal Australian Mint has struck a 2016 cupro nickel uncirculated coloured 50 cents for eleven well-known models.
