Australian (1853) Port Phillip Kangaroo Office £8 two ounces of 'pure Australian gold' gilded copper electrotype of the reverse only.
It has a 34mm diameter plain edge weighing 31.68 grams and similar to the type that is residing in the National Gallery of Victoria Museum.
The original obverse and reverse designs were engraved by W.J.Taylor.
The reverse shows an Arabic '2' with the words 'Two Ounces' superimposed on the right curve and bottom horizontal stroke of the '2'. A broad, raised, engine-turned rim encompasses the incuse legend 'PURE AUSTRALIAN GOLD' above and 'TWO OUNCES' below.
