The red kangaroo is the largest of all kangaroos the largest mammal native to Australia and the largest living marsupial in the world. It is found across mainland Australia predominantly inhabiting semi-arid plains grasslands woodlands and open forests.
The iconic red kangaroo design featured on the 25th anniversary commemorative was originally introduced as part of the Australian Nugget gold coin program as the new theme for the 1989 Proof Issue and was designed by Dr Stuart Devlin AO CMG goldsmith and jeweller to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Only 600 Australian Kangaroo 2014 25th Anniversary 1oz Gold Proof Coins were released individually. Light marks on case and box.
