

New Guinea/Australia 1943 Tul Tul
The German Government took over control from the Neu Guinea Kompagnie
Administration in 1899. Officials known as Tul-Tuls were chief assistants
with police training who held duties to convey to the people any orders or
information received from the authorities. The system was continued by the
Australian administration from 1921.
These official Territory of New Guinea/Australian undated, uniface 42mm
brass Tul-Tul rank badges from 1943, under the Australian service were
officially pierced three times at 3, 9 and 12 o'clock and were worn attached
to the headdress as a sign of their authority.
Australia's Coat of Arms is depicted on the obverse while the maker's name
"Amor Sydney" appears on the reverse. The recipients always took great
care of their badges and with the very high humidity in New Guinea.
