The Perth Mint and Australia Post have issued a stamp and coin cover to commemorate the contribution of Australian women during the First World War. During World War I many Australian women volunteered to serve the Australian Army as nurses medical workers and ambulance drivers. Despite not being permitted to serve on the front line their contribution to the war effort was enormously significant and essential to military medical service.
This PNC features an al/bronze one dollar portraying a nurse holding a soldier's hand as he lies on a stretcher.
