WWI Memorial (Death) Plaque

Memorial or death plaques were produced for men and women who served and died for their countries during the war and given to the next of kin. They measure 121mm in diameter weigh 300-400grams cast in bronze and are uniface. The inscription reads "He died for freedom and honour" with a figure of Brittania holding a trident in the background and a lion in the foreground with the deceased's name in a rectangular tablet.

Peter Aldred Arthur Leonard Birch William Henry Coles Sidney Martin Robert Parker and Thomas Henry Smith.

Private Peter Aldred 40520 2nd Battalion East Lancashire regiment who died on 14th October 1918 - aged 25 buried Orchard Dump Cemetery Arleux-En-Gohelle Northern France.
